We are a company, with four distinct divisions operating under one corporate umbrella, Acme Trailer Works Inc. . The divisions are; Acme Trailer Works, Acme Car Company, Berrien Buggy by Acme, & Acme Composites. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the Acme Companies. Hopefully we will be able to be of service to you.
Acme Trailer Works; Founded in 1983 for the purpose of providing quality trailer repair to the transportation industry. We offer repair service for freight trailers, & truck bodies, as well as minor repair services for truck chassis. We pride ourselves in doing repairs or modifications outside the normal scope of trailer repairs. The company is also licensed to manufacture trailers up to 30,000 lbs. gross weight. We do not mass produce trailers, but rather manufacture specialty trailers to customer specifications.
Acme Car Company; Started as a specialty repair and fabrication shop, catering to road racers and kit cars. That beginning rapidly expanded into a retail parts store servicing all areas of the air cooled Volkswagen culture, and a shop service catering to air cooled Volkswagens and Kit Cars. The parts department has in excess of 4000 parts in stock, and an on line store, which ships parts internationally. The 7200 square foot repair shop is engaged in everything from general air cooled repairs to full on restorations.
Berrien Buggy by Acme; The owners of Berrien Buggy Inc., of Berrien Springs, Michigan had been in business 43 years when due to health reasons, and wanting to retire, they offered us the opportunity to purchase the assets of the company. Berrien Buggy developed a line of sandrail type dune buggy frames which were offered in kit as well as completely welded products. They also had several fiberglass dune buggy bodies, as well as frames to match. In 2012 Acme Trailer Works Inc. purchased all the production equipment, jigs, fixtures, molds and inventory, and relocated it to our facility in New Cumberland Pa. Fiberglass production was moved from a sub contractor in Elkhart, Indiana to a sub contractor in Hanover, Pa. The move began on June 1st. 2012 and the first frame to be produced at the Pennsylvania plant was completed July 15th. 2012. The fist fiberglass bodies were produced within the same time frame. Since that time we have been busy improving the quality of the products as well as expanding the number of products offered.
Acme Composites; On January 3, 2014 we were informed that our sub contractor who supplied our bodies was placed into receivership and had ceased operations. Although we owned all our molds we were left with no company to produce our bodies. We began negotiations with the sub contractors bank and were successful in purchasing all the assets necessary to manufacture fiberglass products, lease the plant in a “turnkey” state, retained the skilled work force, and the majority of the customers. On February 20th., 2014 the fist products form Acme Composites were produced. We manufacture industrial, leisure, and race car fiberglass products as well as our own offerings of dune buggy bodies, as well as, bodies for sprint cars which had been the previous companies product line. Because we work to a high standard of finish quality, we are able to offer our products in metalflake finishes, which makes us somewhat unique in our sector of the fiberglass industry.
All of the divisions operate with the philosophy of quality workmanship, and superior customer service. It is with that attitude which we introduce our various divisions to you with the hope that we may be able to serve your needs. Our underlying effort to service our customers is best described by the Pennsylvania Dutch saying displayed over our parts counter. “ The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten”
